Chapter 1: Digital Literacy

What is digital literacy?
Digital literacy involves having a current knowledge and understanding of computers, mobile devices, the internet and related technology.

Concept of computers
Computer is an electronic device which operates under the control of instructions stored in its memory.

Computers receive the data and transform it into information through certan electronic processes. Data can also be stored in the storage before it is being processed by the processor.

There are several computer devices that helps this through such as the keyboard, mouse or touch pad, scanner, output devices, printer, display and the list goes on.

Each of the devices work together in entering and storing the data (the input) to be processed into information (the output).

In modern world, we now have internet to help as gain or transfer any data or information even faster and to anyone who is also connected with it.

So what is internet?
Internet is a global library of information available to anyone connected to the internet. It is often called as web. This web has its own electronic documents called webpages and this webpage has its own collection of websites each of them.

There are a lot of internet parts that we are usually familiar with such as the browser, link,  search engine, online social media and the list goes on.

Although internet is very user friendly and makes gathering data and sharing information much easier, but there are certain securities that should be payed attention to in order to protect our data and as well as ourselves.

There are 4 main components that should be protected from/for:
1. Electronic devices should be protected from viruses and malware
2. Health issues should be take care of
3. Users privacy should also be protected
4. Environmental issue should be well awared of to prevent any harm or illness

Chapter 2: The Internet

In chapter 1, we have discussed roughly on what internet is all about. In this chapter, we are going to discuss the evolution of computers and how do we connect to internet. Evolution of computers Internet was first known as ARPANET in 1969 with two main goals: 1. Allow scientists at different physical locations to share information and work together 2. F unction even if part of the network were disabled or destroyed by a disaster In 1984 , ARPANET has more than 1,000 individual computers linked as hosts and today m illions of hosts are connected to the Internet! Internet is obviously used worldwide by millions of people including companies and governments. Have you ever wonder how they are connected to it? Type of connections to internet There are two types of connections: 1. wired connection where computer is physically connected using wire to a modem (a communication device). 2. wireless connection where computers without a communication device can use this.
